What is metabolism?

This is among the primary questions of many individuals who are interested in losing weight. If you are among them, this is the best time for you to know the relationhsip between metabolism and weight loss.

Metabolism is actually one of the most complicated processes taking place inside your body. But for you to simply understand it, it is actually the procedure where foods are broken down by your body, converting these to energy needed by your system in performing all your essential functions.

What is metabolic rate and how can it affect your body? Well, if your basal metabolic rate is high, you are lucky because you can eat all foods that you want without having to worry of gaining extra weight. On the other hand, if your metabolic rate is low, all that you eat might just end up storing in your hips. Although metabolic rate is greatly
affected by genetics, there are still several things that can be done to speed up metabolism.

The calories that you burn when doing activities, even when doing nothing, are directly influenced by your body’s muscle amount. It means that if you start building muscle, your speed metabolism will increase and because more calories are being burned when doing the things you used to do, you can now eat more. On the other hand, if you wish to lose extra weight, make sure that you still eat similarly, with your body getting the additional energy it required from your stored fats.

Another way to boost your metabolism is to eat smaller meals and more of them because your body is designed to eat like a caveman and is built for the feast or famine mode as cavemen sometimes had to go days without anything but a few berries to eat and as a survival mechanism, when food isn’t plentiful nature made our bodies metabolism slow down naturally, so, eating many smaller meals will give your
body the signal that there is plenty of food available and so it can feel free
to rev up the engines.  The other advantage of eating more small meals is that it also takes energy to digest food so by doing this you will actually be expending more energy meaning there will be less left over to store as fat.

Metabolism and weight loss are directly associated, which means that you must be conscious enough of what you will be eating in order for your body to make the most out of all the energy it produces without making you worry about gaining some unwanted pounds.
